Escape to Blue Lake, Victoria

Blue Lake is somewhere that you really can't take public transport too, but without a car we tried our best anyway. Never again.

It's a train to Greensborough and then a bus to somewhere.

I'm not even sure where, it was a place so bland it disappeared form my memory almost instantaneously.

Then a walk, a long walk, a one hour walk to be exact. A walk up hills surrounded by bushland and the occasional house.

This is why it's a good idea to double check your public transport route before going anywhere uncertain, so that you don't get caught 2/3 into a journey wishing you'd never started!

Luckily, or unluckily depending on how you look at it, we only realised the long distance of the walk once we'd already gotten off the bus in the unknown suburb, so we were too far in to forget about our Blue Lake day and go home.

Despite the hot weather burning our faces we walked all the way there. The suns rays beating down on our sunscreened oily skin, perspiration dripping as we battled dehydration and fatigue to get to a lake in the middle of nowhere.

If that's not commitment I don't know what is.

The lake is deep down in the Yellow Gum Park, amongst the gum trees, and Blue Lake isn't blue, it's a murky brown colour filled with water that isn't exactly fresh.

However the relaxedness of being in the middle of nowhere and away from busy city life, swimming in the water and seeing people having fun on their little inflatable boats, it felt good.

There's a water tap and a BBQ facility there, deep within, but by jove if you also for some crazy reason decide to walk there (or even drive there), bring some bottled water!

Thanks @Ja_Lu_St for most of the photos in this post.
